The OUTDECO Gardenscreen™ Range won “Best Outdoor Living Product 2017” at the International Builders Show (IBS) in the US in 2017. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) selected finalists in nine categories and over 400 entries were considered. Finalists were evaluated on criteria such as innovation, functionality, and design.

Your choice of finish

Natural Rustic Look

The vast majority of OUTDECO screens are installed in outdoor conditions without secondary coatings. The natural colour of the product and its subtle rustic weathering looks great. However, it’s also easy to coat in an exterior colour of your choice. With maintenance intervals similar to a wooden deck you can use deck coatings to maintain a rich sealed look.

Sealed/Stained Effect

A broad selection of Low VOC water-based seal and stain coating products are commonly available for natural timber decking. These products can be applied directly to screen panels to create a of different stained colours or to re-invigorate the natural colours of the panel. Exterior decking and timber coating products are commonly available at your local hardware retailer.

Paint

A large range of low VOC, water-based exterior opaque paint products are commonly available for exterior timber. These products can be applied directly to OUTDECO screen panels to create a give outdoor screens distinction. Exterior decking and timber coating products commonly available at your local hardware shop should be fine for use on the screens.

Premium Quality Weathertex Hardwood

Use the material that nature gave us for outdoor screening…with a little innovation.

OUTDECO screens are pressed from 100% sustainably sourced hardwood timbers. It’s manufactured in a carbon negative plant, sourcing from a geographic envelope local from the mill and using a conscientious mixture of sources including environmental felling and other sources that may otherwise be considered waste.Unique to fibreboards, organic fibre makes up 97% of OUTDECO screens, and no synthetic glues or bindings are used.

What does Carbon Negative mean to you? Basically there’s an oversupply of C²O in the atmosphere. Traditional production of materials like steel, aluminium and plastics use or omit C²O. Plants and products like ours that are based on organic matter actually sequest it (absorb it). So in short a Carbon negative product is solving the problem.

As the original innovators who’ve pioneered, tested and introduced a sustainable, easy-to-use, modular, cost-effective outdoor screening solution, OUTDECO bring you the highest quality product. Correctly tested and engineered module sizes and formats, unique process and real product testing means OUTDECO offers installers and DIY enthusiasts a unique solution.

Why OUTDECO screens?

This unique hardwood board is a great example of sustainable innovation as it is made-up of 97% wood fibre, and no synthetic glues, which is unprecedented in fibreboard composite materials. This explains its great sustainable credentials and its superior dimensional stability and durability in outdoor conditions. Furthermore, the sources are almost exclusively Australian hardwood (the hardy gum tree), and are not traditional premium, logging sources, (or old-growth forest) but environmental clearing or by-product sources that would otherwise be graded as waste. The use of native, local species follows and philosophy of transport, process and impact minimisation, and sources are chosen from within a maximum catchment area of the mill.

Timber is the product that nature has designed for shading and furnishing or landscape, so using it in our creative landscapes only makes sense. Throughout the life of a tree, it sequests or absorbs carbon dioxide in an almost inverse nature to counteract human carbon dioxide emissions. In recent times humans have tried measure this emission or sequestration of all human or at least industrial practices loosely termed as a ‘carbon-footprint’. Practices using a lot of emissions have a large or positive footprint, those that have no carbon dioxide effect are neutral or those that sequest carbon have a negative carbon-footprint.

The beauty of a negative footprint production, means it is not only ‘not increasing’ the levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, but it is absorbing carbon dioxide, that you could extrapolate as coming from someone else’s production process.

Unbelievably there are no synthetic glues or VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) or carcinogens like formaldehyde which is traditionally present in interior grade composite fibreboards. This is great for you, your kids, mill workers and the planet. This is again a unique characteristic of this material, and it also explains why the product is so durable and stable in exterior conditions, because it’s usually all these artificial additives that start breaking down when exposed to exterior conditions.

VOCs are chemicals that have traditionally been used in many materials, glues, paints and finishes that can and have had implications on end-users, workers, plant emissions and broader environmental issues. To maintain the VOC mitigation, OUTDECO advises that customers use water-based, low VOC paints and staining products.

This unique product is a great example of Australian Sustainable Innovation. The product and the base material is 100% made in Australia. The timber is native and grown in Australia, the Mill is Australian and local to the area the timber is sourced from. The design and manufacture of the end product is Australian, and the company and all its employees are proudly Australian.  There are no country of origin conflicts with OUTDECO.

Privacy Ratings

Each pattern design has an engineered privacy/ blockout rating. This indicates the amount of UV or vision that is blocked or screened-out. For many projects this may not be a critical point, but it does give a guide to the visual effect, and for many projects, this privacy rating is a compliancy requirement.

60% | Ambient Light

Create a delicate airy feel. Great for decorative effects, or to create visual partitioning without dramatically cutting-out natural light. These designs are popular for interior effects, offset on walls, or as suspended ceiling details.

80% | Moderate Privacy

This rating creates decadent light and shadow effects, whilst still offering considerable privacy or barrier partitioning. Great for open (seen from both sides) partitioning, or for shadow walling effects (framed against a wall or fence).

90% + | High Privacy

The ultimate in privacy, the 90%+ rating gives an almost total blockout, allowing only fine shards of light or vision through when looking at the panel straight-on. These designs are also very effective when backlit by LEDs.

More About OUTDECO Decorative Modular Screen Panels

  • OUTDECO screens are made from sustainable, renewable Australian hardwood tailings
  • All OUTDECO screens carry a 10 year warranty against material rot, bloat or delamination under normal outdoor ‘run-off’ conditions. Screens mounted in vertical plain, not submerged/ constant contact with water, soil or chemicals. Installations are the responsibility of the the installer. Correct installation methods must be followed.
  • Ready to install and easy to work with, you can cut, fix, sand and paint/seal OUTDECO screens using standard handyman timber tools.

  • The hardwood exterior board product performs similarly to decking timber. It is resistant to normal run-off weathering, but not suitable for applications where submerged or <100mm to ground or constant water
  • Natural tannins may release and go rusty or grey over time (similar to merbau) if left unsealed. Like natural timber products the panels may vary in colour and texture
  • Painting is not required, however for alternative colours and finishes, outdoor paint or deck sealer products can be used. Following the instructions or consulting a landscaping professional will ensure a good finish
  • The OUTDECO screens are a versatile product and can be cut down and fabricated as per timber, however this is not a freestanding structural product
  • The screens come in standard designs (as per the below), but can also be ordered in plain sheets and can be CNC’ed with a custom design
