6 Composite Decking Ideas For Summer

South African summer days are meant to be spent outdoors!

Being such a versatile material, composite decking allows you to be creative with your outdoor spaces, so we have gathered a few ideas to share with (and hopefully inspire!) you, to show you how you can do even more with your deck to create special features that add to your entertainment areas – especially now that summer is around the corner.

1. Composite Bar Rail

The beauty of composite decking is that you are virtually unrestrained when it comes to using it for applications other than normal decking. Why not match your deck with an extension to your railing to use as a bar? This creates more seating space and allows for more room when guests sit down to enjoy a delicious braai after a long day soaking up the sun.

2. Pool Cover Boxes

Pool covers and nets can be bulky and can look unsightly lying in a messy pile next to your pool. Why not create a box out of composite decking into which you can fold away your pool cover or pool net, both keeping your pool area neat and tidy, as well as protecting your covers/nets from the sun (and rain). Using a colour that matches the rest of your decking will also bring the design of your outdoor space together well.

3. Jacuzzi Cladding

Because of composite decking material’s water resistant properties, there is no need to worry about water damage and/or prolonged exposure to wet areas, making it perfect to clad your jacuzzi with. Some of our decking boards can even be installed underwater! Click here to learn more about our MoistureShield range of composite decking.

4. Outdoor Showers and Changing Areas

Ready for a rinse after your swim? Another benefit of the water resistance properties of composite decking is that you can create poolside outdoor showers (and changing areas) so you can quickly rinse off any chlorine/salt residue after your dip in the pool.

5. Pergolas and additional seating areas

Building pergolas with composite decking couldn’t be easier – and the sky really is the only limit when it comes to how you want to finish off and decorate the space you have created. Whether you want an extension to your deck, or a separate seating area away from your main entertainment space, pergolas are a great way to create “indoor” spaces, outdoors.

6. Storage for cushions and pool toys

Are you continuously carting cushions and/or pool toys from the garage to the pool area? Why not build a box from composite decking to store all your outdoor items right next to your pool or patio are for easy access?

Composite decking is fast becoming the decking material of choice with homeowners and architects alike because of its high performance and low maintenance, not to mention its versatility in application.
